Outside help 'key' to business success

Outside help 'key' to business success George Derbyshire, director of the Institute for Small Business and Entrepreneurship recently spoke to BBC Radio 5 Live's Wake up to Money programme. According to George Derbyshire, who is also Chief Executive of the National Federation of Enterprise Agencies, it seems that entrepreneurs who get outside advice increase their chances of success by nearly 20 per cent, increasing the likelihood of survival in the business environment He stated that between 2006 and 2007 there was a rise in the number of individuals setting up small businesses, as well as an increase in the number of small firms going bankrupt. These figures seem to be a continuing trend that has not changed for some time. It would seem that the recipe for success includes planning, preparation and outside advice. More people are venturing into the small home grown business area, and in particular younger business people, which can only be seen as a positive. However, over the last year and a half it seems that more businesses are closing than starting up proving that entrepreneurs are becoming more cautious. According to Barclays, a record 471,500 new businesses began trading in 2007 and has seen an increase of 17 per cent since 1988. www.smallbusinessreview.co.uk For more information on how to succeed in business, visit: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/3189091.stm
